Memorial Day

As the story goes, Colonel John A. Logan was in combat during the Civil War when he issued order number 11, which called for honoring fallen servicemen in the various states and asked people to bring flowers to their graves wherever they were found.

Mother’s Day

The women of ancient times in the Americas, before the arrival of the Europeans, performed various functions in society; they were shamans, cooks, writers, rulers and midwives. They considered marriage as an essential ritual activity, where they shared with their husband all social and religious functions, especially those related to agricultural fertility rites. Being mothers was part of all the important activities to preserve the divine environment of which they were a part until the end of their lives.

What is celebrated on May 5th?

General Ignacio Zaragoza was born in Bahía del Espíritu Santo, today the city of Goliad, Texas. Shortly after the war of independence of that state in 1836, the Zaragoza family went to live in Mexico and Ignacio joined the armed forces in his new country of residence.
