Joanetta Yvonne Lincoln was born on August 6, 1946, in Domino, Texas. She was the sixth of eight daughters born to her parents, Isaiah and Mattie Lincoln. After graduating high school in 1964, Joanetta attended Texas College, a private, historically Black Christian Methodist Episcopal college (HBCU) in Tyler, TX. While there, she pledged and joined the Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., and proudly served as Dean of Pledges. She also held office as Secretary of the Student Council and graduated cum laude in 1968 with a Liberal Arts degree in English. After graduation, Joanetta moved to San Antonio, TX, and attended Our Lady of the Lake University to earn credits toward her teaching certificate.
While in San Antonio, Joanetta met, dated, and married Stanley Dwight Rand. They wed on December 18, 1976, and later welcomed a daughter, Staci Danielle, on August 3, 1982—just three days shy of Joanetta’s 36th birthday. The Rand family joined Riceville Mt. Olive Baptist Church in 1983, and Joanetta immediately became involved and active in her new church. Over the years, she joined the Choir, Missions & Women’s Ministries, and attended Bible Studies, Prayer Meetings, Teachers’ Meetings, and various conferences, in-services, and workshops.
